116th Avenue NE Scheduled for Partial Opening Tuesday, December 11, 2007
The delayed road opening of 116th Avenue NE is fast coming to a close.  Workers have made progress completing the specially designed subgrade, and new pavement has been placed this week.  Final safety measures and striping for a temporary configuration will allow for the partial opening on Tuesday, December 11, weather-permitting.  The partial opening will include one vehicular lane in each direction, and a temporary walkway for pedestrians.  Flaggers will also be on-site during the remaining daily construction efforts to assist pedestrians through the work zone.
This vital roadway connection is being reconstructed by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to include four lanes, sidewalk along both sides of the road, and to add a new fish passable bridge over Juanita Creek; the reconstruction is being done concurrently and as a result of the new I-405/NE 128th Street Direct Access Ramps.  Originally scheduled to be open by mid-October, due to unforeseen circumstances including rainy weather and soil conditions along the tributary to Juanita Creek, the contractor working for the WSDOT required additional time to complete the construction.  For more information on the I-405 Totem Lake Freeway Station construction project, go to www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i405/totemlake.
